Lagos, Mrs Francesca Emmanuel, Deputy Chairman, Macmillan Publishers Company Plc., said on Wednesday in Lagos that the company would organise this year’s ``literary night`` on Nov. 8.
Emmanuel said this while addressing newsmen to herald the 10th anniversary of the night.
She said that the event has as its theme: ``Break it, Stumbling Blocks to National Development``.
She lamented the deteriorating conditions in the country, saying that Nigerians must stand up to correct them.
Emmanuel identified some of the conditions to include Religious bigotry, corruption, impunity and anarchy.
Others, according to her, are citizenship and ethnicity, patronage and mediocrity, ignorance and poverty.
``The world is changing and moving forward, if we do not change with it, we will be left behind.
``We must look forward in anticipation of likely global political changes and social demands and tailor our national plans to mitigate the likely negative effects of these changes, `` she said.
She said that over the years, the company has been using music, dance and drama to drive home some vital points.
``We believe firmly, that if we are to get where we need to get to as a nation, all hands must be on deck to deal with the issues,`` she said.
The General Manager of the company, Dr Iyiola Adenekan, urged Nigerians to support the Federal Government in its transformation agenda.
``When we join hands together, imagine what the society will look like.
``If we stand together and make the goals of national development work, all things will heighten in the country positively,`` he said.
